Year of the Ox

Happy Chinese New Year! At Chinese New Year celebrations people wear red clothes, decorate with poems on red paper, and give children "lucky money" in red envelopes. Red symbolizes fire, which according to legend can drive away bad luck. The fireworks that shower the festivities are rooted in a similar ancient custom. Long ago, people in China lit bamboo stalks, believing that the crackling flames would frighten evil spirits.

I figured we could all use a little good luck--so throw on something red and splurge on some yummy chinese food and celebrate! Some things you can do today to bring luck: open the windows and doors, eat sweets and change the sheets on the bed!

Happy Chinese New! What a great excuse for my eating sweets;) Now I better get those sheets changed. Dad and I are born in the same year, the year of the monkey, so we must be alike... could that even be possible?

Yes we could use some luck. We just finished eating the best Chinese food in town (from HyVee) and will put something red on. I'll try to remind mom of all the ways we monkeys are alike. Go Ox's!
